Connecticut’s Jonquel Jones and Los Angeles’s Candace Parker have been named WNBA Players of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
The award covers games played from June 12-18, with Jones taking the title for the Eastern Conference and Parker for the Western Conference.
Jones, who earned Player of the Week honors for the first time in her career, led the Sun to two quality victories last week, averaging 17.5 points and 10.0 rebounds in the process. In Connecticut’s game on Saturday, a five-point win at previously unbeaten Minnesota, Jones shot 9-15, scoring 20 points and flirting with a triple double (eight rebounds, eight assists).
Parker, meanwhile, helped the Sparks to a 3-0 week and was named Player of the Week for the 19th time in her career. She averaged 18 points in that span, highlighted by a 20-point performance in a five-point win over San Antonio.
Alyssa Thomas, Skylar Diggins-Smith, Tiffany Mitchell, Chelsea Gray, Nneka Ogwumike, Tina Charles, Shavonte Zellous, and Tayler Hill were also considered for the award, according to the WNBA.
