Basketball is a sport that offers several combinations. One that is about to form involves the Seattle Storm and Planned Parenthood.
On Thursday, Force 10 Hoops, Seattle’s ownership group, announced its inaugural Stand With Planned Parenthood event. The gathering will take place July 18, when Seattle hosts the Chicago Sky. A pregame rally will be held at KeyArena’s West Plaza.
In a statement published by the Storm, team co-owner Dawn Trudeau hopes the event will illuminate the services offered by Planned Parenthood of the Great Northwest and Hawaiian Islands.
“As individual Americans who are not legislators, merely citizens, we have felt hamstrung by our limited ability to make a meaningful impact in the national health care debate,” she said. “Access to affordable, quality health care, including a full range of reproductive care, is a critical precondition for anyone – especially girls and women, to pursue their dreams and grow into their best selves.”
In addition to the pregame rally, the Storm will host a silent auction and donate $5 to Planned Parenthood for every ticket purchased. The partnership is the first between the non-profit organization and a professional sports team.
