Some familiar faces were honored with an incremental award Monday, when the WNBA announced that Tina Charles and Diana Taurasi are the players of the week for the Eastern and Western Conference, respectively.
Charles set her career high with 36 points in Friday night’s Liberty victory over the Dallas Wings. She finished the week averaging 25.7 points and seven rebounds over three games, collecting her 22nd player of the week award, tied for the highest all-time with Tamika Catchings.
Taurasi, meanwhile, set the league’s all-time record for made three-pointers, passing Katie Smith, while averaging 27 points in a pair of games. She scored 37 against the Chicago Sky on Thursday. It is the 20th time Taurasi has won the award.
Both Charles and Taurasi won gold medals this summer playing for USA Basketball once again, and both won NCAA championships playing for Connecticut, as well as WNBA MVPs. It’s not entirely clear where either of them keep all their awards, but there’s clearly a large storage area involved.
