WNBA to celebrate LGBTQ Pride Month throughout June
The WNBA will celebrate LGBTQ Pride Month for the fourth consecutive June, the league announced on Friday.
The month-long celebration will feature four nationally televised games on ESPN2, beginning when the Mystics visit the Wings on June 6.
WNBA president Lisa Borders said in a press release:
"“The WNBA is honored and privileged to celebrate the diversity of our fan base. The league embraces the principles of equality and mutual respect and is always working to ensure an inclusive environment at our games and events.”"
The league will also work with GLSEN and Fanatics on Fanatics-designed WNBA or NBA team t-shirts. A portion of the proceeds will benefit GLSEN, while the WNBA will make an additional $10,000 donation.
The WNBA, NBA, and NBA Development League will have a float in the New York City Pride March on June 25 for the second straight year.
