Cheryl Reeve wins inaugural Coach of the Month award
By Mike Peden
Cheryl Reeve has accomplished plenty of firsts as head coach of the Minnesota Lynx, and her list just got a bit longer.
On Friday, the WNBA announced that Reeve had won the inaugural Coach of the Month award, recognizing her performance for the month of May. Forecasting the honor wasn’t difficult; Minnesota is the only undefeated team left, but that doesn’t diminish the strong starts Reeve has put together. Going 6-0 this May, Reeve and the Lynx increased their May winning streak to 23 games.
Of course, Reeve and winning have been virtually synonymous over the last six years. The 50-year-old has three WNBA titles with Minnesota, along with two Coach of the Year awards. Last season, the Lynx set a record for most consecutive wins to start a season with 13. Reeve is also the only head coach in WNBA history with a career win percentage above 70 (.713).
With her trademark wit and witticism, Reeve’s history of winning shows no signs of slowing.
