The American Athletic Conference will keep its women’s basketball tournament at Mohegan Sun Arena through at least 2020, the conference announced on Wednesday.
The AAC has held its tournament at Mohegan Sun every year since the league formed out of the old Big East in 2013. Thanks to its proximity to UConn, which is undefeated all-time in AAC play, the tournament has led all Division I conferences in tournament attendance in three of the last four years.
Commissioner Mike Aresco touted the fan support and quality of venue at Mohegan Sun in a statement released earlier Wednesday:
"“We are pleased that we are continuing our partnership with Mohegan Sun Arena,” American Athletic Conference Commissioner Mike Aresco said. “Our women’s championship has become the premier tournament in the country, thanks to our terrific fan support and thanks to the outstanding venue and the hospitality of everyone at Mohegan Sun. Our large crowds have enjoyed watching our teams compete, and our student-athletes, coaches and fans look forward to this great event each year. We thank Mitchell Etess, Amber Cox and the staff at Mohegan Sun for their work in making this a special event.”"
The 2018 AAC Tournament is slated for March 3-6, with the semifinals and finals airing on ESPN Networks.
