The San Antonio Stars will again be shorthanded Friday night in their game against the Phoenix Mercury.

Head coach Vickie Johnson told The Summitt on Thursday that the backcourt duo of Moriah Jefferson (right knee soreness) and Kelsey Plum (right ankle sprain) would not play, and the team made it official on Friday.

Plum, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2017 WNBA Draft, is still waiting to make her regular season debut. Jefferson is coming off a rookie season in which she scored 13.9 points per game and dished out 4.2 assists. She has sat out the first two games as well.

Kayla McBride, who is back from her overseas commitment in Turkey, will also not play, according to Johnson.

Morello out for Dream

Aneika Morello (left foot) will not play in Atlanta’s game at Chicago Friday night.

Morello has yet to take the court in 2017, but returns to Atlanta after appearing in 10 games last season for the Connecticut Sun.

The center went undrafted in 2009 and played overseas for three years until signing with Atlanta in 2012. The Dream reacquired her in a trade in the offseason.

Alyssa Thomas’s status uncertain

Connecticut’s Alyssa Thomas remains in concussion protocol and is listed as day-to-day.

Thomas played in the Sun’s season opener against Atlanta, contributing seven points, five rebounds, and three assists, though she also committed four turnovers.

The Sun have another day to figure out Thomas’s status; their next game is Saturday night in Indiana.
