Minnesota Lynx head coach Cheryl Reeve is one of the best basketball minds in the WNBA. To no one’s surprise, her team is again a favorite to contend for the WNBA championship, and the team made a statement Thursday night by pulling away from the Liberty, 90-71 at Madison Square Garden.

The Lynx are now 2-0, and in the second half on Thursday, fans got a chance to see exactly how good they could be. Minnesota used a 17-2 third-quarter run to build a lead against a strong Liberty team, as all five starters scored in double figures, led by Maya Moore with 16 points, 11 rebounds, and six assists.

Reeve was, naturally, pleased with her team after the game and talked about exactly what makes them so effective on both ends. To Reeve, it all comes down to balance —others stepping up, which in turn makes Moore and Sylvia Fowles even better — and the core’s experience playing together.
