For Washington Mystics coach Mike Thibault, Sunday afternoon’s game against the San Antonio Stars represented the culmination of a years-long desire to pair Elena Delle Donne with his philosophy of positionless basketball.

So seeing it in action, how did he feel about it?

“I envisioned way better,” Thibault said, with a smile that indicated he believes the best is yet to come. “So this was a start. But all this was was a start.”

Thibault explained his planned rotation size, what he expects from his Mystics on defense as well, and why he isn’t personally offended that Monique Currie went off for 31 against Washington Sunday afternoon.
