The New York Liberty’s 73-64 win over the Stars to open the season qualified as a defensive slugfest. Liberty coach Bill Laimbeer ripped his (winning!) team afterward, and there were a few confrontations along the way.
One of them came in the fourth quarter between Brittany Boyd and Monique Currie.
According to Currie, Boyd tried to take the ball away, Currie took exception, and the two exchanged words. Currie, however, couldn’t remember exactly what was said, because as she put it, Boyd’s “breath was stinking.”
Watch the video here:
Laimbeer spoke after the game of Boyd’s role, saying her emotions may have gotten the best of her.
“Brittany’s a little feisty sometimes to the wrong end,” he said. “Emotions got in the way. It only cost her money.”
For what it’s worth, Boyd had already left the locker room by the time The Summitt sought a response from Boyd. The two teams meet again August 1 in San Antonio. Hopefully no bad blood or halitosis will remain.
