Oklahoma has granted center Nancy Mulkey her release and she will transfer, the university announced on Monday.

Mulkey played in all 33 Sooner games as a freshman, starting 18 times. Though her scoring (3.8 points per game) and rebounding (2.5 per game) were limited, Mulkey was a force defensively. Her tallied the third-most blocks by an Oklahoma freshman in a single season with 62.

At 6’9, Mulkey was the tallest signee in school history. She was also the tallest player in the entire 2016 recruiting class and was named a McDonald’s All-American and Jordan Brand All-American.

Naturally, top schools from around the country sought Mulkey’s services out of high school. In addition to Oklahoma, she considered Baylor, Duke, UConn, and others.

Mulkey’s decision to transfer is the second of the offseason for the Sooners. Classmate Chelsea Dungee, who also started 18 games, announced her intent to transfer last week.

Oklahoma went 23-10 in 2016-17 and will have to move on without both Mulkey and Dungey, as well as senior leading scorers Maddie Manning and Peyton Little.
