Terrific news out of San Antonio Sunday night, as The Summitt has learned there’s no break, and no serious damage to the ankle of the top pick in the 2017 WNBA Draft, San Antonio Stars guard Kelsey Plum.

The injury has been described as “nothing serious” by someone familiar with the initial diagnosis from San Antonio’s team doctors.

The news comes as a welcome boost to the Stars, who are less than a week away from their May 13 opener at Madison Square Garden against the New York Liberty, followed by the second half of a back-to-back in Washington May 14 against the Mystics.

Whether Plum can return in time for those two early games is not yet known, but it within the timeline of possible. Elena Delle Donne, for instance, returned to game action in 2015 five days after spraining her ankle.

Plum suffered the injury in practice on May 4, so a two-week recovery time would put her back on the court in time for the May 19 Stars home opener against the Phoenix Mercury.

While Plum recuperates, Moriah Jefferson is expected back at training camp this week, ahead of the season opener, after a strong campaign for Galatasaray in Turkey.
