Maryland rising junior Eleanna Christinaki will spend her summer overseas with the Greek Senior Women’s National Team.

The Athens native will join the team for training camp beginning May 15, then compete in the FIBA 2017 Eurobasket in June.

Christinaki started the 2016-17 season at Florida, but opted to transfer to Maryland. She sat out the second semester per NCAA rules. In nine games with the Gators last season, she posted 17.6 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per contest. That comes after a 2015-16 season in which she earned all-SEC freshman honors with 10.4 points and 3.4 assists per game.

The Greek team’s tour will begin with a pair of friendly games in Slovakia in late May. They will then travel to Rome and back to Greece for more exhibitions, before competitive play starts June 16 in Prague.

Under head coach Brenda Frese, 11 Maryland players have won gold medals playing for their respective countries in international competition. Christinaki will be eligible to play for Maryland after the fall 2017 semester.
