San Antonio Stars guard Kelsey Plum injures ankle in practice
San Antonio Stars rookie guard Kelsey Plum suffered a sprained right ankle during practice on Thursday, the team has announced.
No further details about the injury were immediately available, but The Summitt has learned that she will undergo x-rays Thursday afternoon.
Plum was the No. 1 overall pick in this year’s WNBA Draft and enters the league off a celebrated career at Washington. She finished with 3,527 career points for the Huskies, making her the all-time NCAA women’s basketball scoring leader.
San Antonio went 7-27 last year and is looking to revitalize its franchise after consecutive single-digit-win seasons. Plum is expected to be part of that, along with fellow guards and former top-five picks Moriah Jefferson and Kayla McBride.
Plum played 29 minutes during the Stars’ preseason opener last week against the Dallas Wings, scoring 19 points and handing out five assists in a six-point victory.
The Stars open the regular season May 13 at New York.
