JIA PERKINS

Jia Perkins is entering her 14th season in the league. Her 597 career steals is good for sixth on the WNBA’s all-time list. Perkins is among Minnesota’s contingent who declined to play overseas during the off-season, and her reason is quite clear.

“I have a daughter,” she said. “Just being a mom, when your daughter gets to a certain age, you just want her to be stable.”

Perkins’ daughter turns 13 next month, and is expressing interest in taking up her mother’s sport. She could glean a few tips from the practice regimen Perkins adheres to.

“(Reeve) wants me to be more efficient. That’s what I try to work on is taking a lot of shots and making a lot of them in a row,” she said.
