The Money Line: Odds, Prediction for WNBA Rookie of the Year
The Favorites
Kelsey Plum, San Antonio Stars (+500)
I mean, this can’t be too big of a surprise, right? The 5’8 scoring dynamo poured in 31.7 PPG during her senior campaign at Washington, setting the all-time scoring record for points in a career (3,527) and in a single season (1,109), all while shooting an absurd 52.9% from the field and 42.8% from three. There have been plenty of discussions concerning what position Plum will play, but there seems to be no doubt that she is going to be on the court plenty. Struggling through a 7-27 a season ago, the Stars do posses some talent. Kayla McBride returns after fracturing her foot just 17 games into last season, and Moriah Jefferson turned heads with an impressive rookie season. Despite the question marks, Plum’s talent is unquestionable and with nowhere to go but up record-wise for the Stars, the overall number one pick should be firmly rooted in the ROY conversation all season long.
