In a surprise, the Chicago Sky selected Alaina Coates, center out of South Carolina, with the second pick in the 2017 WNBA Draft.

Coates is a classic five, elite finisher with a rebound-per-40 mark of 24.7. She’s also an excellent defender, particularly on post ups, where she held opponents to just 0.514 points per possession, per Synergy.

She’s also entirely overlapping with current Sky players Imani Boyette and Stef Dolson. So expect a trade.
