There's a lot of excitement amongst Dallas Wings fans this year about the addition of Paige Bueckers to the team (not to mention a potential starting lineup that will likely include Arike Ogunbowale, DiJonai Carrington, Teira McCowan), but there's another player that fans should be just as excited about: Maddy Siegrist.

Siegrist was drafted 3rd overall in the 2023 WNBA Draft by the Wings and has so far proven the team made an incredibly solid choice when they brought her onboard. Though she didn't have a major role during her rookie season — she played in 39 games off the bench and averaged 3.7 points in 8.2 minutes per game — she was dependenable when she was on the court.

Her second season in Dallas brought with it a major increase in playing time and on the court impact. She started for the first time in the second game of the season after Natasha Howard was injured and went on to start in 11 of the team's first 13 games. Unfortunately, Siegrist's momentum was slowed down by a broken finger that kept her benched until the end of the Olympic break and she ultimately averaged 9.4 points and 3.3 rebounds in 23.9 minutes per game.

AU Pro Basketball strengthened Maddy Siegrist this year

Siegrist really had the opportunity to shine during the AU Pro Basketball season in 2025. Siegrist averaged 24 points, racked up 12 double-digit games, set a new league benchmark of 7,052 leaderboard points, and was named the season 4 champion at the end of the season's run.

This was her second season with AU and she dramatically increased her stats in the game's system all around. In 2024 Siegrist finished 12th overall — a distant cry from her 2025 top finish.

How Maddy Siegrist could fit into the Dallas Wings' plans this year

Right now it's unclear if Siegrist will start for the Wings in 2025 — but it's not unlikely. Siegrist thrived when she played alongside Satou Sabally last year and could stretch the floor, but with Sabally in Phoenix and an influx of new faces, the Wings will definitely need to rebuild their strategies. The Wings didn't necessarily bring in a stretch 4 or 5 to replace Sabally, a dynamic that might hurt Siegrist in the long run with the team.

Another factor in how Siegrist will fit into the Wings' schematics this season is new teammate NaLyssa Smith. Though she can thrive in an offensive role, Smith's defense is not the strongest in the league, something that Siegrist might be able to use to her advantage as the pair likely vie for a starting spot.

The Wings are lucky to have a player like Siegrist, and if they can maximize her strengths (especially how she moves between the free throw and the basket), 2025 could be one of best seasons yet.
