The Las Vegas Aces have to figure some things out this offseason. For one thing, Liz Cambage is only signed through 2019, so whether she commits to 2020, or to a multi-year deal, will matter quite a bit. It ties into the larger question, which is after one season of Cambage and A’ja Wilson, can this team be at its best with both of those stars on the court at once? Through no fault of their own, the duo overlaps in plenty of ways, strategically, and it isn’t clear that’s the best pathway to a championship, though Cambage wasn’t healthy for much of the last campaign, and there are worse fates than trying to build around that duo. Still, with other key contributors like Dearica Hamby and Kayla McBride signed to full-protection deals, and a seeming unwillingness to just give Kelsey Plum the damn ball and let her run the team at the point, a reorganization of this roster heading into 2020 seems likely. Bill Laimbeer never shies away from a trade, after all.
