James Wade (Chicago Sky) and Derek Fisher (Los Angeles Sparks)

This season once again features two first-year head coaches. Both will look to add their names to the list of WNBA coaches who have won at least 20 games in their first season.

The Sparks have had a lot of success with first-year coaches, with four of them recording at least 20 games in their first full year. On the other hand, the Sky have yet to have a coach lead the team to a winning record in their first year. The most wins by a rookie coach for the Sky is 14, reached by both Bo Overton (2007) and Pokey Chatman (2011).
