Consider the salary cap implications of the Chiney Ogwumike trade. The Sun have just $411,241 committed for 2020 right now, but that’s before they make decisions on a huge array of potential 2019 contributors, from Layshia Clarendon and Rachel Banham to Bri Jones and Jonquel Jones, along with wings Morgan Tuck and Courtney Williams. So a huge crunch loomed, and now Ogwumike’s minutes, at $117,000 this year and $119,000 next year, full protection, will instead be filled by Bri Jones on the end of her rookie deal and Kristine Anigwe on the start of hers… even so, each of those duos listed above will almost certainly be fighting for the right to be part of Connecticut’s long-term future at guard, big and wing, respectively, though Tuck and Williams are different enough that there’s probably room for both well into next decade…
