What we now know, 13 days out

On Conference Tournament Eve, the NCAA women’s basketball committee has released its second and final bracket preview, and it’s mostly what we expected. Baylor, Louisville, Notre Dame, and UConn are the 1 seeds, as expected (though we had UConn and Notre Dame flipped). And overall, our projection included 14 of the 16 that were ultimately included.

The committee views South Carolina more favorably despite only two wins over teams in the top half of the bracket. But hey — the Gamecocks also don’t have any losses worse than 22 in the RPI, so they need some credit for that. Texas A&M was the other team that we did not project as a top 16 team, though we had the Aggies at 17, so it’s ridiculous to complain about that.

PROGRAMMING NOTE: This will be the final massive bracket breakdown of the season. Going forward, there will be an updated bracket, with quick daily (or almost daily) update based on the previous day’s conference tournament games.

March is here.
