12. Seattle Storm: Sophie Cunningham, 6’1 G/F, Missouri

I keep thinking about Cunningham’s willingness to say and do anything to win. It’s hard to imagine that Breanna Stewart or Sue Bird is going to mind that. It is mildly concerning that her overall efficiency numbers have dropped, though she’s been improving them lately, and I’m curious whether the dips largely disappear by season’s end. To this observer, nothing appears any different from last year with her shot. She just profiles like a player who can succeed in this league on skills alone (though she brings intangibles galore), from the plus handle to the way she sees the floor, and it is easy to see her spending time in Dan Hughes’ rotation right away, letting him mix and match by playing her 2-3-4, even giving her some ball handling responsibilities alongside Bird or spacing the floor next to Jordin Canada, even serving as a third primary ballhandler at times. I don’t know how to say it any clearer: buy stock in Sophie Cunningham.
