Predicted Deal: Trade – Liz Cambage/Receive – Kelsey Bone, Moriah Jefferson, 2019 first round draft pick

By Jasmine Baker

Liz Cambage. It’s the name that not only dominated the 2018 WNBA season but it’s already heating up the 2019 free agency talks. After speculation of her returning, Cambage requested a trade from the Dallas Wings.

In October 2018, Wings point guard Skylar Diggins-Smith announced she’s expecting her first child. With her absence after an all-star season, the Wings will be looking to fill both positions this offseason.

Dallas is set with a new head coach in Brian Agler and recently cored vet Glory Johnson. The Wings would be wise to keep fan favorite and unrestricted free agent Karima Christmas-Kelly. Dallas is one of the youngest teams in the league and needs a proven leader in the veteran guard. Unfortunately, she’s coming off an injury that sidelined her the majority of last season. Keeping guard Kayla Thornton (reserved player) would also be in the best interest of the Wings considering she’s one of their most improved players from last season.

Prediction Aces Deal: Trade – Liz Cambage/Receive – Bone, Jefferson, 1st round draft pick

If Dallas doesn’t get Maya Moore or Sylvia Fowles in a blockbuster trade, I predict a trade with Las Vegas. Trading for the Aces first round pick would also give them two top-five draft picks in a heavily touted class. Considering Dallas’ youth, the club is looking at the future of their frontcourt. Luckily for Dallas, two 6’7 centers in Teaira McCowan and Kalani Brown will be available. Expect Las Vegas to possibly throw Dearica Hamby in the mix if they retain her first.

The Wings will likely sit Cambage if they can’t secure a trade. It will be a huge blow to not just Dallas fans not seeing her play but WNBA fans around the world who are excited to see her back after speculation of a return.
