5. Destiny Slocum – Oregon State

Oregon and Stanford are the teams to beat in the Pac-12, but if any team can play spoiler for either of them, it’s the Beavers.

Oregon State made it to the Elite Eight last season but lost their best player, Marie Gulich to the WNBA. Looking to help pick up the slack is sophomore guard Destiny Slocum. Slocum was the Big 10 Freshman of the Year during the 2016-17 season but sat out last year after transferring.

Prior to this season’s start, she was selected to the preseason all-conference team as well as being named an early candidate for the John R. Wooden Award. She made her long-awaited debut for the Beavers on opening night. In a win over Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, she put up 15 points and eight assists.

It’s going to be tough to supplant either Oregon or Stanford, but with Slocum officially in the fold, the Beavers have to like their chances a little bit.
