The 2018 WNBA season tips off this week, and with the start of that season comes a finalizing of rosters: 12 teams, 12 players per team. That’s 144 of the very best players in the world, competing at the highest level, at arenas all over the country.

Separating the cream off the top of such a select group is an all-but-impossible task. Here at High Post Hoops, we engaged in a spirited debate over who to include on the list, where to rank these players, and every bit of it came down to trying to measure greatness against greatness.

Ultimately, like all such lists, this one is subjective. We’ve done our best to weigh players based on offense and defense, project as much as possible what they are likely to be in 2018, taking into account past performance both here and overseas, age and position in career arc, and what we see as their likeliest future outcome.

So what does the power ranking of superstars among stars look like as we embark on the league’s 22nd season? Here’s our take. Debate it, disagree with it, have fun with it! Let’s count down, shall we?
