“Some people may say rebuild. These players say reload.” –Head Coach Pokey Chatman to Howard Megdal, Locked on Women’s Basketball podcast
The Fever was busy in off-season. Aside from the three draftees, Indiana made a necessary acquisition to fill the post-position. The Fever received 6’4 Kayla Alexander from the Las Vegas Aces. She joins Natalie Achonwa with her height and can contribute on the boards. Coach Chatman expects Alexander to be a “huge help with rebounding.”
Briann January was traded to Phoenix, so it is assumed the reigns are being passed to Wheeler to take on that veteran leadership as the team’s starting point guard. The Fever now have a fairly young backcourt that will be built on speed. The youth of the backcourt seems intentional, and the restructuring of the Indiana franchise is in full effect. In addition to the loss of January, Marissa Coleman was waived (she is now in New York).
The Indiana Fever resigned Candice Dupree, Shenise Johnson, Erica Wheeler and Jeannette Pohlen-Mavunga.
