It seemed as if knee injuries were being distributed like gifts last year throughout the league.  Indiana was not exempt and fell victim to the injury plague.

Knee issues wiped out much of the seasoned backcourt for the 2017 year. Shenise Johnson began having knee soreness in May and eventually tore her ACL in July.  Tiffany Mitchell then suffered torn cartilage and a bone bruise in her right knee on August 17. Briann January, four days later, sustained a similar injury, having torn cartilage in her right knee; she was forced to sit the remainder of the season as well.

January has since been traded and Mitchell is in good shape to return to the team.  Johnson’s status is still pending and can very well return to the team in a few weeks. The impact of her absence was blatant last year. The team quickly dropped to 2-16 in post-Johnson play.

With the newest additions, and the return of the veterans, if Chatman’s athletes can stay healthy, they can very much find themselves in playoff contention.
