A’ja Wilson and greatness are synonymous. The University of South Carolina senior and hometown hero will go down as the best player to ever grace the program.
South Carolina native, Wilson, has swept every player-of-the-year award with the exception of the Wooden Award, which will be announced on Fri., April 6. Her accolades this year include USA Today, espnW and Associated Press Player of the Year, as well as the WBCA Wade Trophy and the most recent reveal of the Wooden Award.
Highly decorated since her freshman year, Wilson quickly made an immediate impact on the game. Wilson stands alone in South Carolina prestige, becoming the Gamecocks’ first four-time All-American. And, in conference, Wilson is the first three-time SEC Player of the Year in history.
Wilson’s influence on the Gamecocks is no secret. They have clinched the SEC Tournament title an unprecedented four years in a row; she also led them to a National Championship title in 2017- Dawn Staley’s and the program’s first. Wilson will leave South Carolina averaging 22.6 points, 3.2 blocks and 8.0 rebounds per game, with 24 double-doubles in her senior year alone.
