COLLEGE PARK, MD – NOVEMBER 13: A’ja Wilson

1. Las Vegas Aces: A’ja Wilson, 6/5 F/C South Carolina

Even in a what turned out to be a losing effort against Connecticut Monday night, A’ja Wilson showed why she is the consensus top pick, with 27 points on 11-for-18 shooting. But what struck me as I listened to her talk postgame, spoke with both Dawn Staley and Geno Auriemma about her, was the way she was more than a player for South Carolina: she came in and defined the program. And it is easy to imagine her doing that for Las Vegas, a team filled with young talent, but still in need of an identity. Never mind how much you are going to enjoy watching her execute the pick-and-roll with Kelsey Plum or Moriah Jefferson, there’s something bigger Wilson can provide, and I think she will, right away.
