Teams locked into seeds

#1-Mississippi State
The Bulldogs locked up the number one seed after defeating Texas A&M at home last week, securing the first SEC Championship by any women’s program in Mississippi State history. Winners of 29 straight, and 34 of their last 35 dating back to last season, the Bulldogs finally ended South Carolina’s streak of 4 straight SEC regular season championships. The question now is if they can end the Gamecocks SEC tournament streak as well.

#8 Alabama
The Crimson Tide had high expectations coming into the season as they returned nearly everyone from last year’s squad. While there have been some highs (beating Tennessee on the road for the first time ever), there have been some lows too (losing to Arkansas). Bama has been that classic middle-of-the-road team where they, mostly, beat the teams they should but can’t quite seem to take down the teams above them, the Tennessee win being the exception. If they win their first game in the SEC tournament, they will then have the difficult task of playing Mississippi State. The team they have to beat first? Well, look below.

#9 Kentucky
I was a bit down on Kentucky compared to the general media simply because of all they lost from last year (UK was picked preseason #6 by the media; I picked them #8). Well, the loss of their seniors from last season did prove to be an issue this season. Maci Morris has been spectacular but it hasn’t been enough to take Kentucky to higher places. None of their SEC wins have been over a team ranked higher than 8th in the conference but, to their credit, they’ve been in several games late that they just couldn’t finish off. As mentioned before, the winner of the Kentucky and Alabama game will take on Mississippi State, the same team that the Wildcats will finish their regular season with.

#14 Ole Miss
It’s been a tough year in Oxford to say the least. The Rebels have notched just one conference win, a double OT victory at home over Florida back on January 7. Since then, the team has lost 12 in a row. They will be playing the #11 seed on Wednesday, Feb. 28, which could be several teams, something we will get into on the next page.
