Louisville:

1. Louisville (ACC)
16. Southern (SWAC)

8. West Virginia
9. Ball State

Ball State might be the team here that raises some eyebrows, and that’s fine. The Cardinals are actually a 10 in the true ranking and one of the final teams into the field, but benefited from a procedural bump. West Virginia has lost five out of seven but still has a win at Texas A&M. The Mountaineers will need more than that if they want to stay in the tournament.

College Station:

4. Texas A&M
13. UC Davis (Big West)

5. Michigan
12. Western Kentucky (Conference USA)

How does a six-loss team end up getting a four seed? When all of those losses are to tournament teams and you’ve also beaten Tennessee. Three of the Aggies’ remaining five games are against projected tournament teams, so we’ll see if they’ve really earned it.
