The Minnesota Lynx officially announced their contract extension with head coach Cheryl Reeve on Thursday, along with a promotion to general manager.

More from Minnesota Lynx

The terms of the multi-year deal were not announced, but earlier this month, Pat Borzi reported the deal is through 2019.

“I appreciate Glen Taylor’s confidence in me to continue to lead the Lynx organization,” Reeve said Thursday. “I’m thrilled with the strong and passionate staff we’ve assembled and look forward to the challenges that lie ahead.”

The decision to give Reeve the dual role continues a leaguewide trend that also includes Bill Laimbeer in Las Vegas, Mike Thibault in Washington, Amber Stocks in Chicago, Curt Miller in Connecticut and Pokey Chatman in Indiana.

Reeve’s success stacks up well against any coach in league history, with 195 victories since taking the helm in 2010. Her winning percentage of 71.5 percent isn’t just the best of any WNBA coach ever—only Van Chancellor, at 65.5 percent, managed to top 60 percent other than Reeve.

The continuity so important to Reeve and, really, the success of any organization is also reflected in other deals announced Thursday. Clare Duwelius received a promotion to assistant general manager. Shelley Patterson and Walt Hopkins received multi-year extensions as assistant coaches, while James Wade remains on staff as well.

Now the Lynx can turn their attention to free agency and the draft, ahead of a season that includes hosting the 2018 WNBA All Star Game and, if history is any guide, another championship-contending season.
