Questions 5: What is the game or player matchup you’re most looking forward to this week?
Potkey- For reasons beyond just basketball, I watched and supported Texas A&M hosting TCU in the Maggie Dixon Classic this afternoon. The event honors Dixon, the former Army women’s coach who died in 2006 of a heart arrhythmia. Dixon was a rising coaching star who touched many lives during her too-brief career. It was a matinee game that drew a lot of elementary school kids. If they can learn about Dixon and the impact she made, her legacy will continue making a difference through a new generation. Dixon’s brother, Jaime, is the TCU men’s coach and played at TCU so it’s great to have the women’s program represented. This is an event that should remain an annual staple on the schedule involving high-level teams to bring as much awareness as possible about Dixon and heart health issues.
DuDonis- Texas travels to Knoxville to battle Tennessee on Sunday, the 10th. It will be the first real test for the Longhorns so while I look forward to the matchup on the court, I’m also excited to see the collective fan base of whichever team loses then lose their collective minds. Fans are funny.
Dull- UCLA at Oklahoma State on Friday night. The Cowgirls have already hung tough against Tennessee and Mississippi State this season. Loryn Goodwin delivered 29 and 35 point performances against those ranked opponents. It will be interesting to see who or what makes the difference when Jordin Canada and Monique Billings lead the Bruins into Stillwater for that one.
