Question 3: What result from the past week that jumped out at you the most?
Potkey- Oklahoma’s back-to-back losses to Arkansas Little Rock and Florida were eye-opening. The comments made by Oklahoma coach Sherri Coale in the aftermath displayed her concern about her players lack of urgency. The Sooners are 3-4 with a lot of big games still remaining. This week alone, Oklahoma has a tough trip to South Dakota State, which just took Louisville down to the wire, followed by a home game against South Florida. It will be interesting to see how Oklahoma rebounds.
DuDonis- South Dakota State narrowly losing to Louisville. Anyone who has been paying attention knows how good the Jackrabbits are, but that win would have set the country on notice. Louisville was down big after the first quarter and still down at the half, but South Dakota State’s offense betrayed them down the stretch and the Cardinals were able to finish off the comeback.
Also, are we positive that Dawn Staley and her staff aren’t wizards? Last year, they lose their starting center in postseason play and proceed to completely change their offense and win a national championship. Then this week, without two of their top guards, they completely run over a Duke team who had just beaten Ohio State days earlier. What the heck man.
Dull- I have to go with Green Bay using a strong first half performance to take down Marquette and jump into this week’s poll. That win and the one over Arizona State will carry a lot of weight for them all season long if they take care of business in Horizon League play. And from the Marquette perspective, you can see why one might hold onto that result as a chief reason to avoid scheduling a game like that in the first place.
