UNCASVILLE, CT – JULY 25: Sue Bird

Ah, how many times in her storied career has Sue Bird been described as a “coach on the floor”? Well, how about making Sue Bird a… coach on the floor? Certainly, Seattle couldn’t find a candidate better able to get buy-in from her teammates, with knowledge of the game, capable of motivating, with ties to Seattle both professional and personal. Think of the seconds saved because Bird calls her own plays instead of ever having to look over to the bench (not that this happened a whole lot lately). Think of the fan reaction. Think of the time saved by reporters on deadline, who can get the point guard and coach interviews in one shot! (Okay, that last one is just me.) But this would be epic.
