Destiny Littleton, a high school star who led the nation in scoring as a senior, is heading for Texas after an arduous process of finding a college to play for.

The 5-foot-9-inch guard from The Bishop’s School in La Jolla, Calif. had committed to Southern California, her dream school, last fall. However, on March 3, Cynthia Cooper-Dyke resigned from her post as USC head coach.

“My world seemed like it was turned upside down. I was devastated. But what kept me going were the people around me telling me everything happens for a reason,” Littleton said in a statement published on her Twitter page.

In response to Cooper-Dyke’s resignation, Littleton resumed her college search. Late Tuesday night, she announced on Twitter that she will join the Longhorns program. She became enamored with Texas following her official visit there.

“I found a program that I fell in love with as soon as I stepped foot on the campus. The coaching staff is amazing and goofy just like me. It wasn’t easy saying no to USC, but it was necessary,” Littleton said.

Texas stands to benefit significantly with Littleton’s arrival. She is California’s all-time leading high school scorer with 4,300 points, smashing the previous mark held by Charde Houston. In addition to holding California’s scoring record, Littleton ranks 25th on the nation’s all-time scoring list, right behind WNBA veteran Ivory Latta. Littleton participated in both the McDonald’s All-American Game and Jordan Brand Classic, two of the most prestigious all-star events in the country.

Littleton, ranked 33rd by ESPN HoopGurlz for 2017, joins a pair of top five recruits who already committed to Texas: Rellah Boothe and Chasity Patterson. With a trio of highly coveted athletes, Texas is in good standing to build off their Sweet 16 appearance at this year’s NCAA tournament.
