Teresa Weatherspoon will get more time in the proverbial director’s chair.

On Friday, the New York Liberty announced Weatherspoon as their second Director of Franchise Development. In that capacity, she will join the recently retired Swin Cash. Weatherspoon will also retain her position as Director of Player Development, a role she has held since 2015.

“I love working closely with our players, helping them enhance their game on the court, and am excited to be given the opportunity to work with our front office and team business staff at Madison Square Garden,” Weatherspoon said in a statement published by the Liberty.

Weatherspoon was a household name among Liberty fans in her playing days. The four-time All-Star still holds the franchise record in assists and steals, and her career assist total of 1,338 is 10th on the all-time league leader board. Historians can find Weatherspoon on the occasional retrospective highlight reel, thanks to her half-court game-winning heave in Game 2 of the 1999 WNBA Finals.

Weatherspoon, 51, rejoined the Liberty in 2014 as a team consultant, and her responsibilities have grown since. Prior to her return, she spent six seasons as a head coach for Louisiana Tech.
