PICKS

Round 1 Pick 11 Sydney Wiese, G, Oregon State

Round 3 Pick 11 Saicha Grant-Allen, C, Dayton

It’s rare to get precisely the player you need at pick 11, but Brian Agler did just that with Wiese, a versatile guard who can play some point, shoots the three to replace the production lost when Kristi Toliver signed with the Mystics, and knows how to embrace a complicated defensive scheme (thanks to Oregon State coach Scott Rueck). Grant-Allen is a legit 6’5 who keyed Dayton’s elite defense, a potential long-term answer at the five if she sticks around. Agler and GM Penny Taylor know what they want, which is why we call them the defending champions.
