Chicago Sky

PICKS

Round 1, Pick 2 Alaina Coates, C, South Carolina

Round 1, Pick 9 Tori Jankoska, G, Michigan State

Round 2, Pick 9 Chantel Osahor, F, Washington

Round 3, Pick 9 Mikayla Epps, G, Kentucky

I’m at a loss here, truly. The Sky are a team in transition, but the places they are clearly set, if not overstocked, are with bigs (Imani Boyette, Stef Dolson) and at the point (Courtney Vandersloot, Jamierra Faulkner). Coates is a classic five. Osahor is, ideally, a mismatch-creating five. Jankoska, who really impressed me every time I saw her and who the metrics love both offensively and defensively, ought to be somebody’s point guard. And the same is true for Epps. I don’t see where either of them can get minutes. There’s so much talent on the Sky. But this isn’t just a roster in need of a trade, but 3-4 of them. And the draft, in which the Sky had two of the first nine picks and four overall, made matters worse. Only the fact that there may be more moves ahead keeps this above failing. And there have to be more moves ahead, right? Right?
